Product details

system function

OTT Parsivel2 is a new type of optical raindrop spectrometer based on the extinction principle, which can accurately and reliably measure various types of precipitation above 1 meter above the surface (other heights can be customized according to actual needs), such as drizzle, light rain, hail, snowfall, and mixed precipitation. At the same time, it can also obtain indicators such as radar emissivity, visibility, and precipitation kinetic energy, and the obtained data is transmitted to the data collector or PC through communication cables.

working principle

OTT Parsivele2 emits infrared laser horizontally through a detection head, which is collected on a photodiode at the receiving end after passing through the atmosphere. When precipitation particles descend through the measurement area, the intensity of the laser received by the photodiode will change, and the digital signal processor (DSP) will calculate the size, velocity, and type of particles based on this change. The measurement interval can be set as needed between 10 seconds and 1 hour.

Superb measurement performance, precise waterproof design, and easy operation makeOTT Parsivele2 has become an ideal choice for measuring in unmanned or difficult to maintain environments. At present, it is widely used around the world, including NASA, the University of Washington, Met Office UK, and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.
